The Alsace Regional Council consists of 47 regional councillors who vote on the Region’s decisions. They are elected for a 6-year term mandate.
The Regional Council votes once a year on the Region’s budget, thus deciding the major regional action priorities. It also meets several times along the year.

Developing the territory
The Alsace Region promotes the development of not only major but also medium sized cities. In order to ensure that all its population enjoys the same level of access to equipment and services, the fragile rural and urban areas and the Vosges Massif benefit from specific support.

Secondary school - CFA
The Alsace Region devotes a significant proportion of its budget to education. It is building and modernising Alsace’s existing 103 secondary schools and 31 Apprenticeship Training Centres, contributing to university funding, encouraging the development of New IT and Communication Technologies and supporting student international mobility.

Career training
The Alsace Region is taking steps to develop training including ongoing career training for job seekers and employees. Students are also given research grants in order to strengthen regional research andtechnology transfer skills.

Economy - employment
The Alsace Region provides direct aid to Alsace businesses and craftsmen. It encourages them to modernize, come together in groups, innovate and export.

Transport
The Alsace Region is the authority responsible for organising regional rail passenger transport and the SNCF for running the system. The Region assists with the development of air transport and is also involved in major rail and road projects, particularly the East European and Rhine-Rhone TGVs.

International co-operation allows the Alsace Region to promote exchanges with both its European neighbours and the rest of the world.

Tourism
The Alsace Region is committed to numerous approaches aimed at increasing tourism in Alsace.
Developing its assets with tourism in mind, approaches encouraging tourism facilities, aid to accommodation centres and many other examples that demonstrate this commitment.

The environment
The protection and conservation of natural environments has been targeted by many Alsace Region initiatives. In particular, these are undertaken with the North Vosges Regional National Park, the Ballons des Vosges Regional National Park and the associative environment.

Agriculture - forestry
Alsatian agriculture covers 40 % of the region’s territory. The Alsace Region gives priority to support rational agriculture and to promote products bearing a quality label. It also puts a significant effort into restructuring its woodland heritage.

The Alsace Region encourages the expression of a cultural life that is obvious in numerous Alsatian associations. It is developing its architectural heritage and its museums. It contributes to the development of the practice of sports, especially at a high level.
